I uploaded my 5th music broadcast in “Spoon Radio.” I am
broadcasting music in the order of the lectures I conducted at the “ACJ
Music Academy,” which introduced various genres of music that I previously
taught.
The theme of this week’s 5th broadcast is “Portuguese Fado”,
a song that embodies “saudade,” a typical Portuguese nostalgia similar
to the “han” of Korea or the “blues” of Black people, such
as the longing songs sung by men who left their hometowns for the sea and the
sorrow of women who sent their loved ones away to the ocean.
In this broadcast, I introduce Portugal, the background of fado; the
definition and components of fado; the types of fado; and notable fado singers
and their songs, including Amalia Rodrigues, known as the “Queen of
fado.”
