“Where the Seasons Fade” — Music After the Film #19

Some stories remain with us long after the screen becomes dark.

Some memories become quieter with time, but they never completely disappear.

This feeling is at the heart of Music After the Film, my J Music project in which I select 100 famous films about beautiful and bittersweet love stories and create completely original music inspired by the emotions those films evoke.

For the nineteenth piece in the series, I chose Makoto Shinkai's “5 Centimeters per Second.”

Rather than recreating the film's existing music, I wanted to create something independent — a new musical work that could exist on its own while expressing the emotional atmosphere I associate with the story.

The result is:

“Where the Seasons Fade”

I imagined winter railway platforms, falling snow, distant lights, long railway lines disappearing toward the horizon, and the quiet transition from winter into spring.

“When Love Remains” – A Musical Journey Beyond “Crying Out Love, in the Center of the World”

What happens to love when the story has ended?

Does it disappear with time?

Or does it remain quietly inside our memories?

These questions inspired my latest original instrumental composition, “When Love Remains,” the 17th work in my ongoing music project “Music After the Film – A Journey Through Cinema & Sound.”

For this chapter, I chose the Japanese film “Crying Out Love, in the Center of the World,” directed by Isao Yukisada.

Rather than recreating the film's existing soundtrack, I wanted to create an entirely independent musical response to the emotional atmosphere of the story.

I invite you to listen to the complete composition and allow your own memories to become part of the music.
