How are
you?
This week's
lecture is “Trance music”, the 8th topic of “New Age Music”, which is a summary
of the contents of “81. New Age Music: 8. Trance music” introduced on April 1st,
2017.
Trance music is a genre of electronic music that emerged from the British new-age music scene and the early 1990s German techno and hardcore scenes.
This music
is a musical form that clearly builds tension and elements throughout a track
often culminating in one or two peaks or drops, with a tempo between 135 and
150 beats per minute and repeating melodies. Although a unique genre, this
music liberally influences different music styles such as techno, house, pop,
chill-out, classical music, ambient and film music. Trance music generally has
a long playing time and may include vocals, but is mostly instrumental.
One of the
pioneers of Trance music is a German electronic music pioneer, composer and
musician Klaus Schulze, and especially his 1988 album "En=Trance"
stands out this genre.

Another
album that is considered as a pioneer of Trance music is "Humate-Love Stimulation"
in 1993 by Paul van Dyk.

The representative musicians in Trance music are Kraftwerk, a German band formed in 1970, and considered as an innovator and pioneer of electronic music as well as one of the first successful musicians to popularize electronic music; ATB, a German DJ, musician, and producer of Trance music; and Giorgio Moroder, an Italian composer and record producer and a pioneer of euro disco and electronic dance music.
