The film was announced in 1989, but due to Lloyd Webber's divorce and Schumacher's busy schedule, the actual production began in 2002 and was shot at Pinewood Studios, with scenery made with miniatures and computer graphics.

Rossum, Wilson and Driver had singing experience, but Butler had none, so he took music lessons before filming.
The film earned $154.6 million worldwide, received neutral reviews from critics but great acclaim from audiences.
Critics
praised the visuals and acting, especially the performances of Butler and
Rossum, while criticizing the writing, directing, and unnecessary deviations
from the stage version.

Interesting
stories about the film
1. The doll that resembles Emmy
Rossum in the Phantom's lair is not a wax mold, but actual Emmy Rossum.
Emmy Rossum |
2. The chandelier in the film
weighed 2.2 tons and cost 1.3 million dollars and was provided by Swarovski.
3. The theater fire in the film was
a real fire. Director Joel Schumacher wanted to be realistic, so they destroyed
the theater to shoot the scenes of the film.
4. This film is the only adaptation
of the novel, not a horror film as it is primarily based on the musical. All
other adaptations, such as the 1925, 1943, 1962 and 1989 versions, were horror
films.
5. Anne Hathaway, a former
top-ranking soprano in New York, was the front-runner for the role of
Christine, but due to scheduling conflicts with “The Princess Diaries 2: Royal
Engagement (2004)”, she was unable to take the role, and it later went to Emmy
Rossum.

6. Christine's gravestone at the
end of the film tells that she was born in 1854. The main story of the film
takes place in 1870, i.e. Christine was 16 during the event at the Opera House.
The actress Emmy Rossum, who played her, was 16 when filming started.
Thank you.
