This book is based on an alternative scenario: what if
the real-life events that shaped Modigliani’s life had never happened? For
example, what if his family hadn’t gone bankrupt when he was born and had
remained wealthy? What if he hadn’t suffered from tuberculosis? What if he
hadn’t turned to alcohol and drugs? And what if he had never met Jeanne? This
novel imagines how Modigliani’s life might have unfolded under circumstances
completely opposite to the ones he actually experienced.
