How are you?
Following the last week, I am going to
start my 23rd lecture.
I had conducted music lectures at Art
Collage JANG in Seoul, South Korea every Saturday from March 2015 to December
2017.
I am going to introduce some of the music
in the lecture with a brief overview of the lecture by the lecture’s order
every Saturday.
Please refer to the following link for my
previous lectures.
The 23rd lecture for today is "World
Music: Germany".
This lecture was the 23rd lecture of “ACJ
Music Academy”, which was held on 19 September 2015.
In the field of music, Germany has produced
a number of world-renowned composers, producers and performers, and is a vast
music market ranking number one in Europe and third in the world.
German classical music is one of the most
played repertoires in the world, and there are many renowned composers such as ‘Johann
Sebastian Bach’, ‘Ludwig van Beethoven’, ‘Johannes Brahms’, ‘Robert Schumann’
and ‘Richard Wagner’.
In the 20th and 21st centuries, German
popular music has developed to a variety of genres, including “Neue Deutsche
Welle (New German Wave)”, which belongs to ‘Nena’ and ‘Alphaville’.
Especially, electronic music has received
worldwide attention, and ‘Kraftwerk’ is the pioneer of this genre.
For German folk music, there are many
regions and music in Germany that have their own folk traditions in music and
dance.
Some examples are as follows:
Firstly, Oom-pah is a piece of music played
by brass bands and related to “beer halls”.
Secondly, Bavarian folk music is the
best-known folk song outside of Germany.
'Yodeling' and ‘Schuhplattler' dancers are
attracting tourists, showing images of traditional German life, although they only
exist in the southernmost regions today.
The Bavarian folk music has played a part
in the "Alpine New Wave" and created pioneering world music groups
that blend traditional Bavarian sounds with foreign styles.
Thirdly, Swabia folk songs are the most
popularly represented music by activities such as ‘Saiten
Fell & Firlefanz’ and singer-songwriter ‘Thomas Felder’.
Today, I will introduce 3 German music as
follows:
1. J.S. Bach: "Coffee Cantata"
BWV 211 - Heute noch
2. The Oktoberfest Oompah Band: Wienna
bleibt Wienna
3. Schzützenliesel (Traditional Polka)
You can listen to all the songs from
following YouTube link.
Next week, I will be with you with
"World Music: Yodeling" as my 24th lecture.
Thank you.
