At the age of 17, Mozart worked as a composer in the Salzburg court, but his anxiety grew and he traveled to find a better position. While visiting Vienna in 1781, he was dismissed from the Salzburg position.
He decided to stay in Vienna, the capital
of Austria, where he gained fame but was financially unstable. During the last
few years in Vienna, Mozart composed many of his most famous symphonies, concertos,
operas, and portions of the Requiem, which was mostly unfinished at the time of
his early death of 35. The causes and backgrounds of his death have been much
mythologized.
Mozart composed more than 600 works, many
of which are considered as pinnacles of symphonies, concertos, chamber music,
operas and choral music. He is one of the greatest and continuously popular classical
composers, and his influence on Western music is profound.
Ludwig van Beethoven composed his early
works in the shadow of Mozart, and Joseph Haydn wrote that "Posterity will
not see such a talent again in 100 years."
Thank you.
