Leonardo
da Vinci was an Italian artist of the High Renaissance, born on April 14/15,
1452 and died on May 2, 1519, one of the greatest painters of all time and a polymath.
His work "Mona Lisa" is the most famous of Leonardo's works and the
most famous portrait ever made. “The Last Supper” is the most reproduced
religious painting of all time, and his “Vitruvian Man” is also evaluated as a
cultural icon.

later artists comparable to those of his contemporary and rival Michelangelo.
Michelangelo
Leonardo
was born out of wedlock to a notary, Piero da Vinci, and a peasant woman,
Caterina, in Vinci, in the region of Florence, Italy.
He was educated in the
studio of the famous Italian painter Andrea del Verrocchio.

He spent his early
career as a painter of Ludovico Sforza in Milan, then worked in Rome, Bologna
and Venice, and finally spent his last three years in France, where he died.
Although
not formally studied, Leonardo is regarded by many historians and scholars as a
prime example of the "Renaissance Man" or "Universal Genius"
who had "endless curiosity" and "feverishly inventive
imagination". He is widely regarded as one of the most diversely talented individuals ever to have lived.
