John Constable was an English
landscape painter in Romanticism who was born on June 11, 1776 and died on
March 31, 1837. Born in East Bergholt, Constable is famous for his innovative
transformation of the genre of landscape painting with his painting “Dedham
Vale”. The most famous paintings of Constable include Wivenhoe Park (1816),
Dedham Vale (1828) and The Hay Wain (1821). Currently, his paintings are among
the most popular and valuable works in British art, but he has never been
commercially successful. His work was so famous in France that he sold more paintings
in France than his native England, and inspired the Barbizon school.
