Summary












Little Ashes” is a 2008 Spanish-British drama film set in Spain during the 1920s and 1930s, where three of the most creative and talented young men of that era meet at university and start on a course to change their world. Film director Luis Buñuel watches helplessly as the friendship between surrealist painter Salvador Dalí and the poet Federico García Lorca develops into a love affair. This film won the GLAAD Media Award for "Outstanding FilmLimited Release".


Plot










In 1922, 18-year-old Salvador Dalí arrives at art school in Madrid. The Students' Residence has a modern environment that encourages Spain's brightest young people. Deciding to become a great artist, Salvador soon catches the attention of the Residence’s elite poet Federico García Lorca and aspiring filmmaker Luis Buñuel, who together form the nucleus of Madrid's most modern artist group.

1. The title of this film is taken from Salvador Dalí's 1928 painting "Cenicitas (Little Ashes)." The original title of this painting was "The Birth of Venus", after which it was changed to "Sterile Efforts" and finally "Cenicitas". The painting is now in the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid.
