He begins to solve the mystery of who he is, while his mother is searching for him, and his father is searching for her. The various sounds and rhythms he hears throughout his journey culminate in “August's Rhapsody,” a major instrumental composition that concludes the film.

 Plot

Lyla Novacek is a cellist studying at the Juilliard School and living under a strict father. Louis Connelly is the lead singer of an Irish rock band. The two meet and have a one-night stand, but they can't continue their meeting, and Lyla discovers that she is pregnant. Interesting stories about the film

1. August's unique guitar playing style in this film, including banging on the strings, was innovated by the guitarist Michael Hedges. The first guitar improvisation session played by August in this film is actually Hedges' song "Ritual Dance," played by guitarist Kaki King.

2. In this movie, Lyla's gold cross necklace was dropped on the road before her father puts her into the limo while Louis looks on. In later parts of the movie, "Wizard" can be seen wearing the same necklace as her necklace.

3. Robin Williams' performance as "Wizard" is said to be inspired by rock star Bono.

4. This story is based on the plot of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens.

5. Freddie Highmore actually learned to conduct for the film from the music director and conductor Susan Deaver.
